Retraction & Withdrawal

The Journal of Geosciences and Environmental Studies adheres to a principle in scholarly publishing where the journal Editor is solely responsible for deciding which articles will be published. In making this decision, the Editor is guided by the journal's editorial board policies and must comply with legal requirements related to defamation, copyright infringement, and plagiarism. This principle emphasizes the importance of maintaining scientific archives as permanent records of scholarly communication. Articles published in this journal are intended to remain accurate, complete, and unaltered. However, there are rare circumstances when an article may need to be retracted, withdrawn, or removed. Such actions are undertaken only under extraordinary conditions. All versions of articles, including those retracted or removed, are preserved in the archives of Journal of Geosciences and Environmental Studies.

This policy has been developed in alignment with best practices in the academic and library communities. As standards evolve, we will revisit this issue, incorporating feedback from these communities. We recognize the importance of establishing an international standard on this matter and actively support efforts to create one.

Article Retraction

Articles may be retracted due to scientific errors or ethical issues such as multiple submissions, false authorship claims, plagiarism, or data falsification. Retraction requires a signed statement from the author(s) and the consent of all listed authors. A retraction notification, which will include the reason for retraction and identify the party initiating it, will be published. While the original article will remain in both the online and print versions of the journal, it will be marked as "Retracted." The retraction notice will also be included on the table of contents page.

Article Withdrawal

Article withdrawal is strongly discouraged and only permitted in exceptional cases for an early version of an article that has been accepted but not officially published. Such withdrawals may occur if the version contains errors, duplicate content, or violates the journal's publishing ethics guidelines (e.g., multiple submissions, authorship misrepresentation, or plagiarism). In cases involving legal or ethical violations or inaccuracies that may pose a risk of harm if used, the early version may be withdrawn from our platform. Withdrawal entails removing both HTML and PDF versions of the article, replaced by a notice on the journal's website indicating that the article has been withdrawn in accordance with the Indonesian Journal Publisher’s withdrawal policy, with a link to this policy.

If the author retains copyright, this does not grant the right to withdraw the article after publication. The integrity of published scientific records is paramount, and the journal’s retraction and withdrawal policies apply in such cases.

Article Removal

In rare situations, a published article may need to be removed from the online platform. This will only occur if the article is defamatory, violates another party's legal rights, is subject to a court order, or, if acted upon, may pose a serious health risk. In these instances, the article's metadata (title, author information) will be retained, while the content will be replaced with a notice stating the article has been removed for legal reasons.

Article Replacement

If an article presents a health risk, the author may request to retract the original and replace it with a corrected version. In such cases, the above removal procedure will be followed, with the retraction notice containing a link to the corrected version. The revised article will be republished along with its document history.
